The Gwinnett Arena announced the Buddhist religious leader will speak there in October.
The Gwinnett Arena has announced that His Holiness the Dalai Lama will speak on October 8 at 9:30 a.m. According to the arena's website, he will focus on the "fundamental human values that are the building blocks of an engaged and compassionate world." He will share his vision of secular ethics, according to the program description, its underlying principles, and the "urgent need to embrace such a system in today’s increasingly connected and globalized society." He will accept questions from the audience after his speech. Winner Stacie Stamper: "Everybody has a way to give."
The winner of the Patch Easter PEEPs contest is a diorama that shows a little marshmallow figure in a hard hat helping to build a home while other PEEPs cheer him (or her?) on. The entry by Stacie Stamper honors the work of the Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, which helps support the nonprofit’s mission to provide decent housing for low-income people around the world. "That's so exciting. How fun is that?" Stamper said when she learned that her entry had won. Second place goes to Martin Burrow of Winder, who used jelly beans and a glass jar to create a colorful PEEPs floral arrangement. From Gwinnett County Public Schools: Among more than 100 art pieces on display during this year’s Atlanta Dogwood Festival this coming weekend, visitors will find many produced by Gwinnett County students. Included in those pieces are three pieces by Grayson High Technical Education Program. The Atlanta High School Art Exhibition will feature 107 pieces, of which 41 are the creations of Gwinnett County students. In fact, the work of Parkview High 10th grader Camille Pettit, titled “Laura,” earned the “Best of Show” honor.
