The Georgia Piedmont Arts Center held its final gallery show of 2013 this past weekend and presented awards to several area artists.
The Chairman’s Choice honor for the Georgia Piedmont Arts Center's final gallery show of the 2013 season was presented to a Loganville resident. Bruce Bulau of Loganville was recognized for his acrylic piece “RJ’s Ducks." The theme for the overall gallery show, which was held Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, was "The Beauty of Spring." Art education professional Rosalin O’Rear was guest judge for the show. Georgia Piedmont Arts Center is a nonprofit arts center based in Auburn offering art shows, workshops and classes to the public in drawing, painting, pottery, clay, sculpture and more. Gwinnett County Public Schools salutes fine arts programs in its latest issue of Communique.
As the school year comes to a close, Gwinnett County Public Schools officials are taking the time to commend the district's arts programs and the students who bring them to life. More than 147,000 Gwinnett County students were enrolled in fine arts classes this year, officials said in the latest issue of Communique, an online magazine for the district's school community. That's more than 88 percent of the district's student enrollment. "At a time when shrinking budgets have squeezed out electives in some school districts, we feel both fortunate and resolute in ensuring that fine arts remain an important part of quality and effective education for Gwinnett County schoolchildren," Superintendent J. Local band Georgia Red Clay has landed one more music award nomination. The band announced the Atlanta Underground Music Awards nomination May 13 on its Facebook page. Fans may vote for the band by clicking here. Band members include: Brian Warner, lead guitar; Eric Warner, lead guitar; Austin Patton, bass guitar and vovals; and Rick Gilbert on drums. Hailing from Lilburn, Lawrenceville and Buford, the musical artists formed their band in February 2012, and already have quite a following. Drivin' N Cryin' leads off the lineup at Peachtree Point Amphitheater on May 11.
As summer 2013 approaches, so does the entertainment portion of Lake Lanier Islands. Drivin' N Cryin', a popular group in the Atlanta area, will lead off the concert lineup at Peachtree Point Amphitheater on Saturday, May 11, according to the Lake Lanier Islands website Following will be Sister Hazel (June 22), Georgia Satellites (July 13), with another band "to be announced," the site says.
