Wounded Hero Returns to His Loganville Home Friday

Sgt. 1st Class Mark Allen will be making his way through Grayson and Loganville at about 2 p.m. Friday to be home in time for Christmas.

Shannon Allen, wife of wounded soldier Sgt. 1st Class Mark Allen, said her husband will be making his way up Highway 78, through Grayson and Loganville, at about 2 p.m. Friday.

Allen received critical head injuries in 2009 when he was hit by sniper fire furing a furious firefight in Afghanistan. After more than two years in the V.A. hospital in Tampa, Fla. Allen will be returning home to Loganville in time for Christmas.

Residents are encouraged to turn out and line the streets in support of the returning hero. Shannon Allen said they will not be driving all the way up Highway 78, instead just passing through Grayson and Loganville before turning off at the Bay Creek Church Road exit. Information will be updated when it becomes available.

I saw that you've been in Fl at the VA...I was nearly raised in the VA hospital in Bay Pines/St Petersburg...then was enlisted during VN..met my hubby, and we lived with our children in CA for the better part of 15 years at Lemoore, CA, where he continued his naval career prior to moving back to his home state of Texas. My prayers go out to you and your family, that you continue to improve, you and your family remain strong and that you all have a blessed life. I now work as an Occupational Therapist, and know it's going to be a long road for you all...but, God works out all things...just in His timing....prayer works!!! Keep the faith..and God Bless you all...deb baty

Jamie, it has been cross-posted in the Snellville Patch so it appears on both of the sites. My understanding is that Sgt. Allen will enter Highway 78 at Highway 84, which is actually in Grayson, but the route to Loganville winds a little in and out of Snellville through to Rosebud Road. I will update this after getting final confirmation from Sgt. Allen's wife.

It was great to see so many Snellville citizens cheering Sgt. Allen as his motorcade rolled down Main Street, with the Snellville police leading the way.

Had the Honor of riding my motorcycle in the Escort for SFC Mark Allen to his home in Loganville, along with the Patriot Guard Riders & Snellville PD among many others. It was a wonderful show of support from our citizens here in Snellville and along the entire route. Today is another reason it is easy to say with PRIDE...... I live in Snellville and even easier to say, I am a PROUD American who lives and enjoys the FREEDOM that SFC Mark Allen and so many others provide for each of us! GOD BLESS AMERICA and all who FIGHT and DIE for that FREEDOM.
Welcome Home Soldier..

People were even lining the streets outside of Walmart and Publix and across the street at the top of the hill where Starbucks is (whre I stood to watch). Awesome display of dedication from all and welcome to the family!
