A head-on collision on Highway 53 in Forsyth County, just west of the bridge that connects it with Hall county, kills a 66-year-old woman Friday morning, authorities said.
Annette Woodard, 66, of Cox Drive, in Flowery Branch, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Investigator Ron Tomblin of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
Woodard was driving west on Highway 53 in a black Cadillac SRX around 9:51 a.m. when her vehicle crossed over the centerline and struck a delivery truck driven by Carl Vest, 56, of Sand Trap Lane, in Sugar Hill. Upon impact, the Cintas Service Transport delivery truck caught on fire.
Inv. Tomblin said the cab of the truck and half of the bed of the truck was burned.
When authorities arrived at the scene, Woodward was deceased and the truck was burning. They also reported that a guardrail was destroyed and significant debris covered the roadway.
Vest was transported to Northside Hospital-Forsyth in Cumming where he was treated for burns and released. The press release stated there were no other persons involved in the crash.
Highway 53 was closed until 2:15 p.m. and the crash remains under investigation.
