What’s the Worst Christmas Gift You've Ever Received and What Did You Do With It?

We’ve all been disappointed by a lousy Christmas gift, but it's the thought that counts, right? So what was yours and what did you do with it?

Perhaps it made you feel sad, made you angry or maybe you really are someone who believes it's the thought that counts and you kept it — although maybe at the bottom of your closet. Did you re-gift it and make it a worst Christmas gift for someone else? Most of us have been disappointed in our lifetime by a Christmas gift that wasn't what we were hoping for — some stories are just worse than others.

If you had to think of the worst Christmas gift you’ve ever received, what would it be? And what did you do with it?

I have to confess, I'm a gift keeper. If you give me something, no matter how terrible, it's the thought that counts. It's going on display somewhere, even if it doesn't match. If it's an article of clothing, it's going in my closet - you just never know when I'll find an occasion to wear it!

For their first Christmas, my mother laughed when my daddy asked what she wanted, saying, "Oh, just get me a toothbrush." So, he did. Believe me, her family never let him live that down. In subsequent years, the gifts improved markedly.

A friend of mine, Lindy - an avid anti-Bush person - was given a President George Bush action figure by her daughter as a gag. Her reaction - she re-gifted it to me, probably in protest of my vote for him that year. Like I said, I am a gift keeper. When the grandkids come over is the the only time Bush ever gets any action in my house and that is sometimes to ride the Harley-Davidson telephone that I gave my husband one Christmas when he told me he wanted a Harley-Davidson for Christmas. Come to think of it, that was probably his worst Christmas gift ever.

Wrapping paper. I was like 12. I was hoping it was a kitten or New Kids on the Block calendar. But my mom's friend gave me flat wrapping paper.

When I was 15 and in hi-school, my sister-in-law gave me a set of jewelry consisting of huge faceted burnt umber beads. I collected jewelry even then and that set was the ugliest thing I have evern seen. I think we gave it to Goodwill.

As a gag gift when I was 12, I am 65 now, my cousins gave me a shoe box that was real heavy...I just knew it was a pair of skates...it was a brick...just an ugly old brick....their idea of a gag gift...I was not happy....and I still remember it to this day.

One year my son wanted a Lego Castle Set. I looked everywhere and couldn't find anything so I got him what I thought was the next best thing...an "off brand" Lego-like Castle. Well, you could just see the disappointment in his face when he opened the package. Since that time the family threatens each other with a fake Lego castle if we aren't kind to each other. (And after Christmas, I exchanged the gift and got him the real thing and all was right with the world again.)

A fake cat that looked like a real cat sleeping. I was so sad it wasn't a real kitty that I threw it away. The same relative gave me a thigh master that stayed in a drawer because I just couldn't regift it and make some other woman feel bad about her body! Btw ... Same relative gave both gifts!

An older friend gave me a "cut glass" candy dish. It was really not something I would ever use, so I wrapped it up and gave it to my son's girlfriend for Christmas, the following year she wrapped it and gave it back to me, we did this for several years. She married someone other than my son, I gave it to her as a wedding present.

The worst gift I ever received was a single sock, that matched nothing. I think I tossed it, but don't really remember. It was many years ago.
