WGHS Teen Injured in Wreck No Longer Critical
Aaron Garcia's family expect him to be moved to the Atlanta area as soon as a hospital bed is available. Community support for the family continues with a garage sale planned for Saturday in Loganville.
The condition of Aaron Garcia, the Walnut Grove High School student critically injured in a car wreck returning from a spring break trip, has improved enough for him to be transported back to the Atlanta area.
His mother wrote on the Facebook page this week that his condition is no longer critical and he may be out of ICU when he is transported to a Georgia hospital. The plan is to move him as soon as a bed becomes available.
The Loganville community and Walnut Grove High School has maintained a vigil as Garcia recovered from the injuries he sustained in a car wreck on the way back from Florida on April 8. According to David Roche, a Loganville resident whose son is a tennis teammate of Garcia, there were five WGHS seniors in the car that wrecked, all but one tennis players at WGHS. Garcia and Alan Peper were the most seriously injured, with Garcia's injuries critical. Peper has returned to school to complete his senior year, but Garcia was unable to be moved due to the seriousness of his injuries.
Although he has a long road ahead, the Warrior tennis player appears to be recovering at a steady pace now. There have been a series of fundraisers to help cover the expenses of the family as they spent time in Florida during Garcia's hospital stay. Another fundraiser garage sale is planned for Saturday at the Kuppenheimer store in Loganville from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The garage sale is sponsored by the tennis team. Garcia had done some video work for the American Legion in Monroe and members of the Legion plan to be at the garage sale. Kuppenheimer's Men's Warehouse is on Highway 78 between the QT and Ingles. If you have something to donate to the sale, call Anita Roche at 770-979-8926 or text Jennifer Lockridge at 770-337-5256.
Donations are still being accepted for the family at WGHS. Tennis coach Laura Sutherland is coordinating the effort. Any donations can be mailed to the school at: WGHS 4863 Guthrie Cemetery Rd, Loganville, GA 30052, ATTN: Laura Sutherland (for Aaron/Alan). Checks can be made out to Warrior Tennis. A paypal account also has been set up. Email Sutherland at email@example.com for details.
