Sunday Sales Pass in Gwinnett, Cities of Monroe, Walnut Grove

Just as voters in many Gwinnett cities did last November, county residents voted to allow beer and wine sale on Sunday in the unincorporated parts of Gwinnett County. The cities of Monroe and Walnut Grove did the same thing in Walton County and Monroe also voted to allow restaurants to serve alcohol on a Sunday.

In Gwinnett County, the Sunday sales referendum passed by a large margin with over 67 percent of voters approving the measure. In total, 48,721 voted in favor of allowing Sunday sale and 22,625 voted against during the March 6 referendum. Monroe voters supported Sunday package sales by 57 percent with 654 of the 1151 people who voted supporting the measure and 497 voting against it. The Sunday sales of liquor by the drink support was higher with 678 of the 1140 who voted, or 60 percent, supporting the measure. The Walton Tribune reported that Walnut Grove also approve Sunday Sales in the referendum.

Loganville and Grayson approved the measures in November as did the other Gwinnett County cities Dacula, Lilburn, Suwanee, Auburn, Braselton, Lawrenceville, Snellville, Berkeley Lake, Duluth, Sugar Hill and Norcross. All voted to allow Sunday sales. Buford also approved the measure on March 6.

According to a , the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution last November authorizing June 1 as the start date for Sunday sales meaning June 3 will be the first Sunday on which retail package sales will be allowed.
