Sunday Sales Begin Today - For Some

Grayson residents will be able to pick up a six-pack of beers while shopping in grocery stores this afternoon, and Loganville residents Sunday next week. However, Gwinnett and Walton County shoppers will have to shop elsewhere for the same opportunity.

If you run out of beer before sitting down to watch the big game this afternoon, don’t worry. You can just run down to the grocery store and pick up a six-pack. That is if you live in the city of , Auburn, Braselton, Duluth, Lawrenceville, Norcross, Snellville, Suwanee or Sugar Hill. If you live in , you will have to wait until next Sunday – or you could just shop in a Grayson or Snellville grocery store for one more week and pick up your beers there.

These cities have opened up the opportunity for Sunday retail sales of malt beverages following the outcome of referendums on the ballots November where voters chose to approve the measure. Gwinnett and Walton counties, or any other Walton County cities, did not have the issue on the ballot. That means that grocery stores in unicorporated Gwinnett or anywhere in Walton County, besides Loganville, will not be able to sell from the wine and malt beverage aisles on a Sunday. Gwinnett County Board of Commission members voted last week to put the item on the ballot March 6 - the same day as the state's presidential primary. Officials claim putting it on earlier would have required a special election, a costly step for the financially strapped county.

If you live in Walton County or unicorporated Gwinnett, will the inability to purchase alcohol on a Sunday have any impact on your shopping habits?
