Share the Road Signs Up On Broadnax Mill Road
Walton County were able to comply with a request by friends and family of a cyclist killed on Broadnax Mill Road and get "Share the Road" signs up in time for his memorial service Dec. 4.
At 2 p.m. Sunday, family and friends of Mark Jidov, 56, of Loganville will be attending a memorial service for him at Victory Baptist Church in Loganville. Jidov died last month after being hit by a vehicle while cycling on Broadnax Mill Road. His family, friends and fellow cyclists can take heart in knowing that steps have been taken in an attempt to prevent any future cycling tragedies on Broadnax Mill Road. By Friday, Share the Road signs warning of cyclist were prominently displayed on both ends of Broadnax Mill Road. Friends and family of Jidov had petitioned the county for the signs, asking that they be up in time for his memorial service Sunday. The county complied with the request.
The accident happened Nov. 1 when Jidov and a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old were heading north on Broadnax Mill Road just north of Youth Monroe Road. According to Georgia State Patrol officials at the time, the vehicle struck the bicycle Jidov was riding in the rear, injuring Jidov. He was transported to Walton Regional Medical Center where he died of his injuries.
Jidov was well known in the local cycling community and his death other cyclists in the community to try and bring awareness to their presence on the road. Members of the local cycling community are invited to Jidov’s memorial service.
