Movie Theater Headed for Loganville

Officials expect to make an announcement on which theater, and where it will be built, as early as Thursday.

On the heels of news of a roller rink coming to Loganville, officials expect soon to announce a movie theater is set to follow.

“We are entertaining a movie theater and have a couple of people looking so heavily we expect to have an announcement as to who and where it is going by Thursday,” said City Manager Bill Jones, adding that the city has been working with developers and movie theaters for a while and have two potential sites and a third theater group also strongly considering the city.

“It will take about 18 months to build so we can expect it in the spring or fall of 2013,” Jones said, adding it would be a multi-screen theater. “We’re looking at 12 to 17 screens.”

Jones said some of the movie theater conglomerates the city has been courting range from “the big boys to some very strong independents.”

“That’s just one more piece of what we’re looking at for the families in Loganville – we expected to be able to announce this even before the skating rink,” Jones said, hinting there would be more announcements to follow, including some popular clothing store lines.

At one time the theater was to be built on the empty lot by Oasis Bowling.

Yes, Amber - that was before the economy tanked. It was on supposed to go in on property in unincorporated Gwinnett County. This one will be inside the Loganville city limits. It is my understanding, there was a delay in bringing one to the city because the one in the county was still on the cards. However, it appears to be a dead issue now.

Hint please! Will this be built from the ground up or perhaps in a old building? :)

Amber that I don't know but I should find out by tomorrow. Given the location I believe being considered, it will be in Gwinnett County and not Walton, so that would count out the old Ingles building, but I really am not sure.

What about the roller rink? Any idea where they are talking about putting it? Something needs to go in the old Ingles. It has been sitting there empty since I think 1996.

I didn't get any names on potential clothing stores but I for one would be very happy with a local Stein Mart - just sayin!

I would be happy if the only clothing, etc., store we got was Kohl's. Love them!

I agree with having a local Stein Mart here in the city of Loganville and also a Kohl's there is plenty of space money is the issue. It would be grand to even have a Mall sit on land of the Walton Ponds.please update you all comments.

Lets hope that the movie theater will not cost the public $11.00 dollars a ticket or it will tank! We are in a recession and need to be very careful what we are charging our consumer's or they will not go to the theater if it's going to cost a fortune! As we all know (greed) has cost us already!!!!

The skating rink has been in, but in Gwinnett, for a while. Still no update on the movie theater though. Everything went quiet again. I'll check this week and see if that means its been dropped - I certainly hope not!

The economy is improving and I hope all of this happens here in Loganville. I think it will work but I would like to see some of it in the Walton County area.
