Manhunt Ends, One in Custody, Two Still on Loose

WSCO confirmed that one of the burglary suspects is in custody, another is still on the loose, but his identity is known, and the identity of a third is unknown at this time.

Walton County Sheriff’s Deputies called off a manhunt on Wednesday afternoon with one burglary suspect in custody, another identified and a third one still on the loose and his identity unknown. The incident began after a suspected burglary was interrupted in the Hidden Creek subdivision in Loganville.

“We have enough information to follow up and get warrants for the arrest of the second one,” said WCSO Maj. Keith Brooks. “We had three in full pursuit but when we got down in the swamp in Rockdale County, we called it off.”

Brooks said by that time they had the one in custody and Rockdale County authorities, who were assisting, would be doing extra patrols to see if they could apprehend the second and third suspects.

“What happened is some neighbors on Windermere Drive, off Highway 20, observed some people that they knew didn’t live in the neighborhood and called it in. When deputies responded, they saw a gate that was open and observed that the back door had been kicked in,” Brooks said. “When we were processing the scene with extra deputies out there, the suspects were spotted. We gave a short foot trace and got the one. We brought in the K9s and then the others popped up and took off running into Rockdale County. The dog tracked for about a mile before we called it off.”

Further information will be given as it becomes available. The manhunt in Walton County, however, is no longer in operation.
