UPDATE: Crews Resume Search for Man Missing in Lake Lanier, Believed Drowned
A 44-year-old man reportedly jumped off a sailboat just after midnight on Saturday and has not been seen since. Authorities are searching for what is believed to be another drowning in the lake.
UPDATE: Crews resumed the search Sunday morning for the man believed drowned in Lake Lanier early Saturday morning using sonar.
"There is no real update yet this morning," said Robin Hill, a public information officer with the Department of Natural Resources. "Divers went out this morning, beginning at about 8 a.m. We are working with side scanners. We are working with the Hall County Sheriff's Office and Forsyth County. Hall and Forsyth County also have divers. They are searching in an area that is very difficult to search. It is very deep - about 60 to 120 feet - in an area of the lake that was flooded and has a lot of debris - trees, etc."
Authorities in Hall County and the Department of Natural Resources are working what appears to be another drowning in Lake Lanier.
WSBTV reported that 44-year-old Jeffrey Nause of Atlanta went missing in the early hours of Saturday morning after reportedly jumping from a sailboat on the lake. The sailboat was reportedly near Lake Lanier Islands resort at the time that Nause went overboard.
Authorities told WSBTV that the search for Nause will resume Sunday. Alcohol has been cited as a possible factor.
