Woman Arrested After Driving Wrong Way on Highway 78
A Loganville woman drove from Monroe to Loganville on the wrong side of Highway 78. She was charged with DUI, reckless driving and fleeing/eluding police after confessing to drinking four beers, some wine and smoking fake marijuana.
Anyone headed to Monroe from Loganville on Highway 78 in the early morning hours of March 9 might have been surprised by a car headed straight for them. That car was driven by Kristin Vicki Taggart, 40, of 3277 Summit Glen Drive, Loganville.
According to a Loganville Police Report, dispatch advised all Loganville units that at about 3:20 a.m. Saturday a vehicle was was spotted headed west on Highway 78 in the eastbound lanes. The witness who called in the report drove parallel on the correct side of Highway 78 with his cell phone video running. Two of these were uploaded to Youtube and shared on Patch. An attempt to stop the vehicle at Broadnax Mill Road allegedly was not successful. The vehicle continued on the wrong side of Highway 78 all the way from Monroe to the Loganville city limits, allegedly almost colliding with several vehicles head on in the process. After a brief chase, the vehicle was eventually stopped in front of Loganville Ford and Taggart was arrested. Police reported that she appeared confused, her eyes were glassy and there was a smell of alcohol on her breath. She allegedly confessed to drinking about four beers, some wine and smoking K2 Spice (synthetic marijuana) before driving. She refused to take the breath test, however.
Taggart was charged with driving on the wrong side of the roadway, fleeing/attempting to elude police, reckless driving and driving under the influence (alcohol less safe). She was transported to the Walton County Detention Center and her vehicle was towed.
