Citing health issues, Loganville Mayor Ray Nunley will tender his resignation, according to city officials. A special called meeting will be held Wednesday to discuss how the city will proceed.

Nunley was diagnosed with lung cancer late last year and he has been undergoing treatment ever since. He announced during his State of the City address that he would not be seeking reelection in 2013, and Vice Mayor Dan Curry subsequently announced he would seek the post. The mayor and several council members threw their weight behind Curry's candidacy.

Nunley has tried to keep up his mayoral duties in the meantime, but has struggled in some instances. Curry has conducted meetings in they mayor's absence on occasion. The city put out an announcement Monday saying that in light of the mayor's health and his continued treatments, a special called meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday to discuss the mayor's letter of resignation.
