Loganville Mayor Nunley Diagnosed with Cancer

Loganville Mayor Ray Nunley announced Thursday that he is battling lung cancer.

At the end of Thursday's City Council meeting, Loganville Mayor Ray Nunley announced that earlier this week he was diagnosed with lung cancer.

"I don’t know what the future holds," Nunley said. "I start tomorrow with tests and I will keep you posted on this."

Nunley had announced at the beginning of this year that he would be running for another term in 2013 when his term is up. He said nothing has changed.

"I plan to move full steam ahead, that has not changed," Nunley said. "I plan to whip this thing and I will be running for reelection next year."

Nunley said he will be at Emory in the morning for a biopsy and the Monday he will be having further tests to see if the cancer had spread beyond his lungs.

"I just felt that this was the right time to tell it," Nunley said. "I wanted people to know the truth from me and not talk about it on the streets. And I plan to give periodic updates."

I have know Ray since I was a little girl. He was my dad's best friend and a pallbearer at his funeral! I grew up knowing his as "Uncle" Ray... this news saddens me and he will be in all of my family's prayers!
