A Loganville man has been arrested and two others are being sought in connection with a series of burglaries in the Dacula area.

The burglaries, which began the week of Oct. 12, involved witness reports of a dark green sport utility vehicle. Gwinnett County Police were able to identify the vehicle as a 1998 green GMC Jimmy. A description of the vehicle and the tag number were distributed as a BOLO (Be on the lookout) to uniform officers.

A detective developed a lead on the identity of the driver through the use of the department’s pawn shop transaction database. As a result of the investigation, warrants for burglary and theft by deception were obtained against Darryl Kevin Aiken, 21, of Loganville, in connection with two pawn transactions of stolen property.   

On Oct. 23, a Gwinnett County Police officer stopped the GMC Jimmy listed as the subject of the BOLO. Aiken, who was driving the vehicle, was taken into custody. After obtaining a search warrant, officers discovered a stolen firearm and 92 grams of marijuana in the vehicle. According to the investigator’s report, police are still trying to locate the owners of other property that was found in the vehicle.

A similar burglar was reported in Walton County last week. A door was kicked in and a television stolen from an address on Evergreen Drive in Monroe. This was the same modus operandi as the Dacula burglaries. It is not clear at this time whether there is any connection.

Aiken is currently being held in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond. He is charged with felony burglary in the 1st degree, two counts of theft by deception, traffic citations for materials on windshield/light and 2/32 inch tread on all grooves and is also being held for another agency.
