Kirby Wins Georgia House District 107

When the final vote eventually came in after 11:30 p.m. on Super Tuesday, it was Tom Kirby of Loganville who secured enough votes to win the Georgia House District 107 Special Election. With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Kirby has won the Special Election in a runoff against newcomer Paul Smith. Kirby will fill the unexpired term of to take a full time ministerial position.

According to the Secretary of State website, Kirby took 1,424 of the 2,604 votes cast in Walton County and 2,060 of the 4,094 cast in Gwinnett County for a total of 3,484 of the 6,698 cast or 52 percent of the vote. Smith took 1,180 in Walton County and 2,034 in Gwinnett for 48 percent of the vote.

After coming in second to Smith and ahead of Mark Banks and Michael Lynch in the Feb. 7 Special Election, Kirby earned enough votes to qualify for the runoff on Super Tuesday. All four candidates were Loganville residents.

Kirby campaigned as the true conservative who follows the principles of less government and fiscal responsiblity.

“Government at all levels has grown way too much in the last 40 years”, Kirby said when first announcing his candidacy.  “It does not matter if we are talking about the federal government, state government, county, city or even your HOA or neighborhood government, we need less government in our lives and to restore our personal liberties.”

Kirby said that growing up he learned the value of hard work on the family’s cattle farm. After graduation from Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana, he went on to the University of Kentucky earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Economics. He brings with him 25 years in the business world, working for several outstanding corporations. Currently he is the Human Resources Safety Manager for CertainTeed Corporation Siding Products Group.   Kirby and his wife, Rosemary, have three daughters.

Now that he has been elected to serve out the remaining nine months of Walker's term, Kirby gets to turn right around and defend the seat in the November General Election.
