Should Romney Consider a Female Running Mate?

Ann Romney has set off a firestorm of speculation after saying her husband might be considering a female running mate. Do you think this would be a smart move on his part?

Ann Romney set off another round of veep speculation when in a interview Wednesday she suggested her husband, presidential candidate Mitt Romney, might be considering a female running mate.

The New York Daily News reported that further speculation was generated when he walked in a Fourth of July parade just after that with Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire.

Is this a wise move? So far a woman on the ticket hasn’t been much help in a campaign. It didn’t help Democratic candidate Walter Mondale in 1984 when he choose Geraldine Ferraro as a running mate, and it didn’t help Republican candidate Sen. John McCain when he picked Sarah Palin in 2008. However, Romney is reportedly not polling well among women, so some say choosing a female running mate might help him in that specific demographic.

What do you think? Would this be a smart move and if so, what potential running mate do you think he could choose without repeating the history of Ferraro or Palin?

I think Romney should choose the best running mate period. Who would be best for the country? While it would be great to have the first woman, first Asian, first redheaded Vice-President, I'd like to know that they're the best qualified for the job. When I talked to people at Sen. Marco Rubio's book signing yesterday, many of them hoped Romney would pick him as his running mate. http://patch.com/A-vMPg

Romney should just payback all the funding he got payed from the big bankers, shake Ron Pauls hand and drop out. Ron Paul is the delegate winner by a landslide.

I hope Romney does not choose a running mate based on sex. Frankly, as a female Republican voter, I was offended when John McCain chose Palin because I felt he was simply pandering to the female electorate. Palin was simply not prepared for what was thrust upon her. McCain had better, more logical, choices available. Given that the vice president has to step in should the president be unable to fulfill his duties, I would hope actual job qualifications would outrank factors such as sex, religion and ethnicity.

I think Romney should choose a corporation as his running mate. "Vote Romney/Mcdonald's 2012, We're Loving It!" Or maybe raffle the office off to one of his billionaire benefactors. Does it even matter? This race comes down to one thing and one thing only; can the Presidency be bought with unlimited funds from a few powerful interests?

My father told me "its a womans privilege to change her mind". As much as Rominey has changed his mind he would be in good company with a female vice president .

Religious prejudice!! From a Liberal, of course. I wonder if the ACLU will defend Romney against these malicious attacks.
