Is It OK to Wear Yoga Pants Outside the Studio?
With the Black Friday run on yoga pants from Victoria Secret, can we expect to see more of them on the streets after Christmas?
The Black Friday run on yoga pants from Victoria Secret begs the question, are that many people looking to take up yoga in the new year? Or are the fashion police going to be looking for additional recruits as all those people in yoga pants hit the streets?
Fashion experts have been debating this issue since yoga pants first became a clothing item. Are they just for yoga or is it OK to wear them on the streets, in stores and restaurants or even, gasp ... in the office?
According to Jocelyn Greenky Herz, a senior vice president of SoHo-based Colin Cowie Lifestyle, “Yes.” In a New York Times article Herz said, "If your entire outfit looks chic, there’s no reason not to."
But not everybody shares this opinion. The issue has even raised some controversy with some school dress codes ruling out yoga pants as acceptable school dress.
What do you think? Are yoga pants outside the studio a no-no or an acceptable fashion statement? Do you see it as a sign of fashion confidence or a sign of just plain laziness?

Day by day Yoga is getting popularity in many countries and many fashion industries are producing fashionable yoga outfits which are not only usable for practicing yoga but also for going outside. As a Yoga instructor I love to wear yoga pant while going out with my friends.

Ha ha! I'm wearing yoga pants right now! They're comfortable! And I'm going to the gym later this morning anyway.

Yoga pants are the only pants my zipper-phobic daughters will wear to school.

Yoga pants make me feel like if I have the urge to go to the gym, I can do so at any moment...

And would do, if only there was enough time. Oh well, maybe I'll try again tomorrow. What yoga pants can I find to wear tomorrow, just in case. :)

Note: I am still sitting here in my yoga pants 2 and a half hours later... On my couch!
Side note: Yoga pants appears to be the preferred uniform of Patch editors!

Whatever happened to activity specific clothing ? I remember when you only wore gym clothes in gym or pajamas to bed. Nowdays people are wearing anything anywhere. I guess I'll be heading to Publix in my speedo later.

Let us know if we need to come and bail you out David. A shopper in Publix in a speedo could be something that generates one of those 911 calls on a "person acting in a suspicious manner."

If it was acceptable to wear pajama pants everywhere, that's what I'd do. But I've found Walmart is really the only place I can do that. Just yesterday I bought some sweatpants that I could wear in public. I'll have to try that out.
Aren't yoga pants fairly tight fitting? I'm thinking that's a no-no in public for me.

If I had the body of a healthy 20-something, then yes, by all means, wear yoga pants. I took a long look at myself in the mirror. I don't wear yoga pants to yoga class. It was frightening!

Yes it's okay to wear them whenever you want. It's funny to me how the majority of men seem to have a problem with them (oh, of course if you look sexy in them then they say it's okay) but most of the women think they are fine. Conclusion - wear what you want, not what makes someone else happy.

I don't know, I like them. I'm all for women wearing Yoga pants.
However, I would say let's use common sense in wearing them. If you can get away with them, fine. If you look like 10 pounds of Jello squeezed into a 5 pound sack, then maybe best to leave them at home. Just sayin....
