Have You Noticed an Increase in Your Grocery Bill?

The weather is getting the blame for the recent rise in the cost of food.

Reports indicate that food prices are going up, again, and this time the weather is getting the blame.

According to CNN Money, it’s not just in the United States that is being squeezed by an increase in the cost of food: It is a global problem. The reason for the increased prices, however, is being tracked back to the U.S.

The monthly Food Price Index released by the United Nations on Aug. 9 had food prices up by 6 percent in July. A major reason given was the grain price -- more specifically the price of corn. The increase in price is reportedly the result of the grain shortage because of the excessive heat and drought conditions in the U.S. this summer.

The food prices in the U.S. have been on the rise and officials aren’t expecting it to get any better. In fact, CNN Money reports, it is likely to get worse.

Have you noticed an increase in what you have to pay at the grocery store checkout recently? If it doesn’t get any better, will it have an impact on your food shopping habits?

There’s corn crop impact that's weather related, the ethanol component for fuel made from corn mandated by Federal law which impacts the feed cost of all critters large and small.

Then there are those farms that sold stock early due to pasture and water availability issues and for good measure, we haven’t seen all the new sales taxes yet …

We’re all obese and the increasing cost of groceries will cut us back to size - YUM!

So Mayor Bloomberg restricting soda serving sizes in NY is just a kind hearted attempt at RATIONING corn syrup… Who knew?

To give you a much better picture of how bad the drought is, go to this page and scroll down to the last image on the page. This is how much rainfall the we would need to get in order to break the drought.

The higher prices are already here. Everyone should start budgeting now for the increased prices. Here’s a link to a blog I read about budgeting for increased food prices:
