Congratulations to Grayson High Valedictorian and Salutatorian!
The title of valedictorian is normally given to the student with the highest GPA, and salutatorian is given to the student with the second-highest GPA.
Elizabeth Wood, daughter of Robert and Elaine Wood, will attend Georgia Institute of Technology. Her intended major is biochemistry, and she plans to pursue a career as a pediatrician.
She has received or been offered the Maxxis International USA scholarship. Wood was the most promising science student her junior year. She is an AP Scholar with Distinction and was awarded a Georgia Certificate of Merit.
School activities include volley ball, Beta Club, National Honors Society, Science National Honor Society, and Spanish National Honor Society.
Each Sunday she volunteers at Holy Cross Anglican Church. She is an acolyte, working in hospitality and nursery positions. She also volunteers with Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation.
Reem Al-Atassi, daughter of Adel Al-Atassi and Somaya Muiny, will attend Emory University's pre-med program and plans to pursue a career as a doctor.
She has received or been offered the Maxxis International USA and Comcast Leaders and Achievers scholarships. She is a Georgia Scholar Nominee, the Graduation Marshall, and received the Gwinnett Daily Post award for Best Features story. She also received a Georgia Certificate of Merit and is a Toastmaster's Competent Communicator.
Al-Atassi is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, and has volunteered with Relay for Life. She participated in the Principal's Leadership Council, Student Ambassadors, Muslim Student Association (president) and is the newspaper's editor-in-chief.
She is also president of the Gwinnett Gavel Club and contributes to the Atlanta Muslim online publication.
