Grandmother of Grayson Girl Charged in Drowning Deaths
Marta Sonia Corvi faces reckless conduct charges after her granddaughter and another girl drowned in an in-ground pool on June 10.
Last week authorities announced charges against a Dallas woman following the drowning deaths on June 10 of two 5-year-old girls—one of which was her granddaughter.
Marta Sonia Corvi, 58, was arrested on June 14 by the Dallas Police Department and charged with two counts of reckless conduct. She was the housekeeper at the Vista Lakes subdivision home in Dallas at which Sophia Juarez, who resided in the home, and Mia Penoyer of Grayson drowned in the home’s in-ground pool. Corvi is also Penoyer’s grandmother.
Corvi's arrest was announced by the Paulding County Sheriff's Office, which is assisting Dallas Police with the release of information in the case.
Sgt. Bill Gorman of the Dallas Police Department told Dallas-Hiram Patch that the girls had been found in the pool fully clothed on the afternoon of June 10. Officials believe they went into the pool sometime during a 45-minute time span when Corvi was on the phone.
Corvi as of Thursday afternoon was being held in the Paulding County Detention Center awaiting bond. Dallas Police previously withheld her name as she had been taken to WellStar Paulding Hospital for evaluation following the incident.
