The air is getting crisp as fall approaches, but there will be plenty of heat in area stadiums, as regional foes clash tonight in the third week of action.

The Monroe Purple Hurricanes will try to maintain their catergory 5 strength against the Oconee Warriors in Watkinsville tonight. The 'Canes are 2-0 after leveling Winder-Barrow last week, and Loganville with a similar lopsided score the week before. Oconee is coming into tonight even at 1-1 following a close loss to Lanier last week.  Both teams play at home next week; MAHS vs Lumpkin Co while Oconee will face Morgan Co.

Clarke Central will square off against the Loganville Red Devils at home tonight. CCHS are 0-2 so far this season, falling to Central Gwinnett by a field gaol last week, 42-45. Loganville defeated Walnut Grove 32-13 at home last week, leveling off at 1-1. Next week, Clarke Central faces Apalachee while Loganville will head to Flowery Branch.

Winder-Barrow's Bulldoggs are seeking their first win of the season at home this week. They face a 1 and 1 Gainseville High School. Next week, the Bulldoggs travel to Conyers to face Salem High School.

North Oconee High will face Madison County at home tonight. Both teams are hungry for their first win of the year. Last week, N. Oconee opened their season with a 58-15 loss to St Pius X Academy. Next week they will face Athens Christian Acedemy.

The Walnut Grove Warriors are also seeking their first win after opening 0-2 this season. Last week, they made the short trip to Loganville in vain, falling to the Red Devils, 32-13. The Warriors will face Howard (Macon) at home tonight. Howard has also opened the season with a pair of losses.  Next week, Walnut Grove travels to Stephens County.

Cedar Shoals is at home tonight, hoping to rack up win number 2 for the season against an 0-2 Flowery Branch team. Last week, Shoals defeated Elbert County 35-28.

The Lions of Loganville Christian Academy will travel to Unity Christian tonight hoping to extend their winning streak. Already 3-0, the Lions roared into victory last weak, shutting out Griffin Christian 42-0. Next week, they travel to McDonough to face Creekside Christian.

George Walton Academy travels to Atlanta tonight to face Holy Innocent's Episcopal Academy. The Bulldoggs are 1 and 1 so far, following a loss to Aquinas last Friday. HIEA is 2-1 for the season. Next week, GWA faces Commerce Academy.

Athens Christian Academy will face Jackson County High tonight. Each school is 1 and 1 for the season. Last week, ACA defeated Banks County, 22-7, while Jackson lost to Jefferson. Next week, ACA will face North Oconee.

Athens Academy, Apalachee High School, and the Prince Ave. Christian Academy are all on bye weeks. Athens Acedemy takes the week off, 2-0 and faces Our Lady of Mercy next week. Apalachee heads to Gainesville after taking the week off; Prince Ave takes a break with a strong start of 3-0.

I'm going with definite Monroe, very likely Loganville and a Go Walnut Grove, get that first win tonight! Being a glass always full person, I looking for GWA and LCA to get the job done - so my prediction - 5 for 5!

Word is that Watkinsville is under a Hurricane warning...a purple hurricane warning, that is...MAHS beats the O'Warriors by double digits. LHS has done some levee repairs following it's own Hurricane strike two weeks ago, looking solid against Walnut Grove last week. Tonight, the Devils squeak out a win over Clarke Central, LCA is an undisputed powerhouse in division. The Lions will end the week at 4 and 0. Walnut Grove/Howard is a toss up; The Warriors are hungry enough to win, if they can refrain from turning minor setbacks into huge mistakes due to the frustration factor, then I'll give them the benefit of the doubt tonight and say the Black and Green faithful go home smiling tonight...
