Law enforcement officials from all over the country have been invited to help provide security at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. next month - including deputies from Walton County Sheriff's Office.
The Walton County Board of Commissioners agreed Tuesday to let four deputies from the WCSO travel to North Carolina to assist with security from Sept. 3 to 6. BOC members were assured that the bill would be picked up by the Democratic National Convention team and wouldn’t cost the county anything. The cost of housing and Workmen’s Compensation, etc. during the four days also would be covered.
Officials were concerned that it might cost the county overtime pay for remaining deputies to pick up the extra duty, but were assured by the finance officer that probably wouldn’t be necessary.
According to Wikipedia, the first three days of the Democratic National Convention will be at the Time Warner Cable Arena. It will then will move to the Bank of America Stadium on Sept. 6 for Democratic presumptive presidential nominee Barack Obama to deliver his acceptance speech.
