Former Loganville Funeral Director's License Suspended After He Dismembers Body

He is also accused of threatening to kill a colleague and he reportedly attempted suicide inside his Loganville Funeral Home.

Ellenberg Funeral Services on Highway 81 in Loganville closed down almost as quickly as it opened. It is now being reported that the owner, William B. Ellenger III, has had his licenses suspended following a series of bizarre incidents.

According to CBS Atlanta, Ellenberg, who also is the owner of Metro Embalming and Crematory in Conyers, had his license suspended after it was reported that he dismembered an 800-pound body in the Conyers location in order to fit it into the crematory. Conyers police investigated and reported it is not a crime to do so. Permission needs to be sought from the family first, though, and it is reported that Ellenberg did not do so.

Ellenberg appeared on a large billboard on Highway 78 in Loganville earlier in the year advertising the opening of Ellenberg Funeral Services in Loganville. However, it wasn’t open long before it was found to no longer be in operation. CBS Atlanta reports that Walton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a suicide attempt by Ellenberg on Aug. 15 when he allegedly shot himself in the leg. He also is reported to have threatened the life of a former business partner.

Ellenberg's license was suspended on Sept. 20, but he can appeal the ruling. Ellenberg told CBS Atlanta that his troubles are the result of a woman scorned - the former business partner with whom he reportedly had a relationship at one time.

Why would the family of the deceased even need to know that their loved one had been dismembered? Wasn't the body about to be destroyed anyway?

There's the little matter of 'respect' that says you should call the family of the deceased before you dismember it.

Sad. Sounds like depression. He needs a happier, more alive atmosphere.

Didn't think this new funeral home in Loganville would be able to compete with the other established funeral homes but sure didn't know it's failure would be due to the owner's personal issues.

Connie, are you suggesting that there aren't enough people dying locally to "spread the wealth around"? Maybe Ellenberg should have opened up in Chicago. He should have called the family and explained to them that their relative wouldn't fit in his incinerator. CYA if you will. If the family didn't want their member dismembered, they could have changed plans. These arrangements are very expensive as many of us are aware.

Talking about some missing facts in the LMS story,

Burning the evidence is a SURE FIRE way to cover something up.

What does a 4X Large crematory go for ?

And we are feeding the kids TOO much for lunch. Hummmmmmmmmmmm ?

He can't take the stiff competition.
But it is a dying industry...
He just made a grave mistake...

So... the family is upset that the guy was cut into pieces ....before he was burned to ashes?

Do dismembered ashes look different?

FWIW between this article and Paul Broun's moronic mumblings Loganville has made Fark.com (news aggregator) twice in as many days .A dubious honor to be sure .

Grant, the point is he was supposed to obtain permission first. Cremated or not, I'd like to be told "we need to chop up your dad in order to obey his final wishes."

On that point we differ Tadaki,

If I have dropped a giant corpse off to be burnt to ashes I'm really not at all interested in the procedure as long as the result is as expected.

"If I have dropped a giant corpse off to be burnt to ashes"

Grant, is that what the family did? Maybe I missed the part of the story where the loved ones backed up their truck, dumped their relative with the understanding that Ellenberg Funeral Services was to do whatever it takes so long as he fit in a jar when they were done?

As usual, Sharon Swanepoel from the Patch cheers Grant on for his offensive contributions. You people make me sick! You delete blog contributions when you are personally offended yet put your smiley faces on BS posted by people like Grant who are clearly posting to offend. Is this what PATCH.COM is charging their advertisers for?

Rex,
I'm simply sharing my personal opinion. It's exactly what the "comments" section is for.

Personally, I don't care what they do with me. I can imagime what a regular funeral would have cost with an oversized casket and hole!

You're all missing the point. Eight hundred pounds. 800. Can you visualize that? 800 pounds of disgusting blubber that's gonna' smoke like hell when it hits the fire.
He should have said, "Take your fat carcass elsewhere...you're not good enough for MY oven, ya' fat piece of crap."
They should give him a medal for even pondering it.
FAT PEOPLE ARE DISGUSTING and deserve to be dismembered and burned up.

If I were family I would much rather not know the gory details and be further scarred by the image of my loved one being chopped into manageable pieces.. I say just let him do his job as best he can.
