FairTax and VAT Hearings In Washington Tomorrow

The Ways and Means Committee is scheduled to hold hearings on the FairTax as well as Value-Added Tax at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Washington D.C.

The House Ways and Means Committee will hold hearings involving the FairTax tomorrow for the first time in 10 years.

According to a press release from U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall (R) from Georgia's seventh congressional district, the House Committee on Ways and Means will hold a congressional hearing on the economic impact of two separate consumption tax models: the FairTax and the Value-Added Tax (VAT) at 10 p.m. tomorrow. There will be two panels— one for each model. 

Those scheduled to testify as to the benefits of the FairTax include former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Dr. Lawrence J. Kotlikoff, professor of economics at Boston University, Dr. David Tuerck, executive director of The Beach Hill Institute as well as professor and chairman of the department of economics at Suffolk University and Bruce Barlett, columnist for Tax Notes and The Fiscal Times as well as contributor to The New York Times.

Woodall’s Seventh District includes all of Barrow and Walton counties, most of Gwinnett County, and portions of Forsyth and Newton counties. He is the sponsor of H.R. 25, the FairTax.
