The Christmas colors in Grayson this year are green and gold. With the Grayson Rams headed to the Dome tomorrow with hopes of bringing home the 2011-2012 GHSA Class AAAAA State Football Championship, folks in and around the city of Grayson are showing their support.
With Grayson High School's head football coach Mickey Conn playing it safe, the city of Grayson can’t yet step up and give the team the send off it wants too. However, that has not stopped local vendors decorating their window - and Christmas trees - with messages of support for the team.
“We’ve always been big supporters of our Rams and have catered all their home games,” said Hail Mary Sport Pub owner Blake Hawkins. “As you can see, we even have the Rams on our Christmas tree.”
City officials in Grayson said they could not be more proud of the team and would love to have a proper send-off for them, but they are respecting the coach’s request to hold off – at least for now.
“We are just sending our good thoughts and prayers down to the Dome so our boys can 'Finish the Mission,'" said Grayson administrator Laura Paul-Cone. “We will plan one awesome celebration for after they win state! We would love for everyone to go to the Dome to show their love and support for this awesome team. Bring your shakers and cow bells and any other noise-makers you can find and represent Grayson with pride and class.”
Grayson High School has a Loganville address and serves many Loganville students, including some from inside Loganville city limits, so Loganville Mayor Ray Nunley said he also would like to show his support. Should the Rams win tomorrow, it is likely he and Mayor Jim Hinkle of Grayson will both figure out a way to help the team celebrate.
Meanwhile, plans for tomorrow’s big game for members of the Touchdown Club include a tailgate dinner in the Blue parking lot across from the Georgia Dome. Members plan to gather in the parking lot from 5 – 7 p.m. There will be tents, tables and chairs as well as heaters. For a cost of $4, the members will be serving fresh hot hamburgers, hotdogs, baked beans, chips, cookies and drinks.
Also on the menu - a large helping of support for the No. 1 Grayson Rams.
