Accident at Intersection of Highways 81 and 78 Sends two to the Hospital

Accident happened at about 4 p.m. Thursday in front of the Kroger shopping center in Loganville.

The Loganville Police Department worked a two-car wreck Thursday afternoon that sent two people to the hospital. According to officials, the impact was sufficient to deploy the airbags in both vehicles.

"The driver of the at fault vehicle was shaken and was transported by ambulance," said Lt. Mike Westbrooks of the LPD. "The passenger of vehcile number two complained of neck pain and was also transported."

Westbrooks said both victims were transported to Clearview Regional Medical Center in Monroe. He said the accident is still under investigation.

Walton County has a traffic issue from 78/81 to 78/20. Wrecks occur in that area almost, if not, daily. Perhaps flashing overhead signs "congested area" might help. Perhaps syncing the lights. If you're driving 78 towards Loganville it's 55 fast mph and then bam it seems you're instantly in slow "city" traffic. I don't know what the solution is but I know one thing, this is a dangerous area! same for intersection of 78/Old Loganville Rd. Sad tha it takes numerous wrecks and possible fatalities before anyone will take notice and improve these high-traffic areas.

SR 20 going out toward Conyers also has a large number of accidents. I understand your concern. There do seem more than normal in the Loganville area. The 81 and 78 intersection was, at one time, noted for having some of the highest wrecks around. I thought the changes when Kroger came in had helped though.

The speed limit coming west on 78 from Monroe/Between changes from 55 to 45 once you get to Claude's. Going east, it changes from 45 to 55 once you pass the traffic light at the intersection of 78 + 81.
IMHO, the speed limit really shouldn't change until the intersection of 78 + Tom Brewer. This would better prepare people (heading west) for the slow down coming ahead -- plus there's not that big a stretch of road between 81 + Tom Brewer that would make 55MPH a necessity just yet.
