14th Annual Ride for America to Leave from Loganville on Memorial Day

About 1,000 bikes are expected to leave from the American Legion Post 233 on Monday for the annual Ride for America to raise money for the Legacy Fund.

For the second year in a row, the annual Ride from America will head out on Highway 78 from Loganville on Memorial Day. Last year was the first year the start of the ride was moved to Loganville.

Following the flag raising at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Loganville American Legion Post 233, the bikes will head out for the ride to Madison for a patriotic ceremony before heading back to Loganville for lunch and live music.

“Last year there were almost 750 bikes that left from the American Legion,” said Loganville Councilwoman Michelle Lynch. “It's for a great cause. The money raised goes to the Legacy Fund for children of fallen heroes. They are shooting for 1,000 bikes this year.”

The event costs $10 per rider and $5 per passenger. The funds help support the Legacy Fund, a scholarship for children of the fallen. The ride is organized by the American Legion riders, headed up by Legion rider and co-founder of the event, Stan Mauldin. Up until last year, the ride started out in Monroe, but it has now been moved to Loganville. The bikes head out onto Highway 78, creating a great, spectacle to being Memorial Day celebrations. Lynch urges people to get out and line the streets to support this patriotic event.

“Michael and I will be riding it once again this year,” Lynch said. “It is a wonderful cause and an incredible experience.”

A military wife herself, the event is one very close to Lynch's heart. Her husband, former Loganville councilman Michael Lynch, returned just last year from a tour of active duty in the Middle East.

Registration and breakfast begins at American Legion Post 233 on Highway 78 in Loganville at 7 p.m. on Memorial Day.
