WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Rob Woodall (R-GA) joined his fellow House Budget Committee colleagues in unveiling the Fiscal Year (FY) 2013 budget resolution—“The Path to Prosperity: A Blueprint for American Renewal”—at a press conference Tuesday morning on Capitol Hill.  He and the rest of the Budget Committee then spent Wednesday marking up the resolution before reporting it out of committee late Wednesday evening. 

“I am on a quest to restore economic freedom to this nation, one fiber at a time.  This budget resolution certainly points us in the right direction,” Woodall said afterward.  “I was proud to stand with my colleagues today and advance a budget resolution that provides principled and realistic solutions to growing problems.”

The FY2013 Path to Prosperity reduces spending by $5 trillion relative to the president’s FY 2013 budget proposal.  It also reduces the size of the government, and reforms our nation’s broken tax code by clearing out special interest loopholes and lowering tax rates across the board.

“The cuts and reforms in this year’s FY2013 budget resolution show that House Republicans are ready and willing to lay it all on the line for the sake of securing America’s fiscal future.  This resolution reduces the size of government and paves the way for growth and success within the private sector—without bureaucratic interference—thus creating certainty and creating jobs.”

The Path to Prosperity calls for tax reforms that actually grow revenues, provide transparency, and broaden the tax base to include more Americans in our nation’s fiscal health.  In the Concurrent Resolution on the Budget, the tenets of Woodall’s signature legislation, the FairTax, is included as an example of reforming this nation’s inequitable tax code.

“With The Path to Prosperity, we are taking steps toward fundamental tax reform,” Woodall said.  “Folks on either side of the aisle can agree that this is a much-needed step toward fixing our nation’s broken economy.”

The Path to Prosperity resolution repeals the President’s health care law and provides solutions that put patients in control of their health care with no disruption for those currently receiving, or about to receive Medicare, and strengthens it for future generations.

“Medicare has a critical role in our nation.  This budget resolution ensures not only that those who have long paid into Medicare receive it, but it preserves this important program for our children and our children’s children.”

Woodall continued, “The bottom line is that we make the tough decisions that are necessary to make this great nation exceptional once again.  We have seen how low this nation can sink and now it’s time for us to rise again.  I hope that the Senate and President are starting to hear the wake-up call from the Americans they serve, and I hope that, unlike previous attempts at reality-based solutions, we can all make quick work of passing—with the President’s support—this important budget blueprint.”
