Loganville Lions Club Donate Granite Bench to City

  • July 11, 2012

Members of the Lion's Club dedicated a granite bench to the City of Loganville on Tuesday. Lions Club member, and Loganville City Councilman, Dan Curry said club members were happy to contribute to city after completion of the Pecan Street alignment.

"At the beginning of the Pecan Street alignment and streetscape project Bill Jones ask The Lions Club if we would take on the project of providing something meaningful on this piece of City property once the street was moved over," Curry said. "Of course, we were delighted to do this project."

Curry said it was a 30-month project, with contributions from members and a matching community relations' grant from Lions Clubs International.

"We purchased a granite bench with the Lions International logo and moto "We Serve," and a lamp and lamp pole consistent with the streetscape," Curry said. "We also provided a granite marker with a quote from Helen Keller "It is a terrible thing to see and have no vision."

Present at the dedication were 20 club members, three representatives from Lions District 18-D, current Past President Wendell Geiger, Mayor Ray Nunley, Councilwoman Michele Lynch, City Manager Bill Jones and many family and friends. The Lions Club of Loganville has served since April 19, 1965, and we were honored to do the Pecan Street project.
