Coalition Launches Petition Regarding Taxpayer Funded Positions at Chamber of Commerce

  • August 15, 2012

A coalition of organizations and private citizens has launched a petition in an effort to learn how taxpayer dollars given to the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce are being spent.

According to a press release from political activist Sabrina Smith, concerned citizens have been working since February to determine why Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has reportedly been paying the salaries of two Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce employees since 2007.

"GCPS issued a statement in July saying the investment in the Gwinnett Chamber pays off, and in return for funding the salaries, GCPS had received $6 million which goes directly into the classrooms," Smith wrote. "They have offered no proof to support that statement, but say they plan to continue to fund these positions at the chamber."
